I asked Burnley Tory MP Antony Higginbotham what he was going to do about chronic underfunding of the NHS, shortage of nurses, zero state funded hospices and a collapsing care system.

His response?

There is no chronic underfunding of the NHS…I’ve encouraged everyone to take part in the consultation

Meanwhile, the extra £20bn offered by the Tory government in 2018 was nowhere near enough to keep up with demand and so-called further money in 2019 turned out not to be new money after all. The latest promises are far too little, far too late.

The NHS has been underfunded for over a decade. Between 2009-19 budgets rose on average just 1.4% each year compared to average annual rises since it was created of 3.7%. Staff say they don’t have the resources to do their jobs and we know this government has wasted over £8bn on useless PPE.

What Antony has to offer is denial and a request we fill in a survey. I don’t think that’s good enough and is evidence that Antony Higginbotham MP is woefully out of touch.
